Abstract: This book shows how to use instructional technology (iPad apps, web-based interactive games, SMART boards etc.) to reach curriculum objectives for typically developing children and how to achieve IEP goals for children with disabilities in preschool and kindergarten settings. The authors discuss how to implement technology use in the context of everday activities such as arrival, circle time, snack time, and play using their planning and implementation framework called "EXPECT IT-PLAN IT-TEACH IT." In 10 chapters, the authors cover foundational information as well as how to use the framework for instructionacross developmental areas, to support inclusive practices, and as an assessment and progress monitoring tool. Chapters 1 and 2 outline foundational information that covers common barriers to technology in the early childhood classrooms, foundational concepts relating to the framework, and supporting research. Chapters 3 and 4 focus on instrucitonal strategies and assessment, while Chapter 5 discusses how to use technology to include students with disabilities in daily activities. Chapter 6-9 explain how to use the framework to support development in the areas of emergent reading, writing, social behavior and social communication, and play. The last chapter explores the promise and challenge of emerging instructional technology in the future. Detailed vignettes woven into each step of the process illustrate how educators can put the framework into practice.
