| Abstract: | In this publication, the authors identify professional development in psychology through the lens of "simple exposure." In essence, the authors propose that with a foundation of professional behaviors and increased exposure from a variety of areas in psychology, the individual will increase their opportunities. Despite the focus of this publication being on psychology, it is able to be applied to all the behavioral sciences which include psychiatry, counseling, marriage and family therapy, and social work. The audience that is most appropriate for this writing is graduate level psychology students and early career professionals.This publication includes an overview of professional communication and appearance, an emphasis on self-care and multiculturalism, an overview of the components of governing boards and advocating for an early understanding, reviewing various financial considerations, and providing the components of the curriculum vitae. The authors also review the advantages for the graduate student and early career professional as well as outline the following components of professional development: research, conferences, training, grant writing, program development, quality assurance, certifications, journal reviewing, organizational involvement, and publications.
