Abstract:
The core pharmacy law is based upon three major pieces of U.K. legislation (Medicines Act, Misuse of Drugs Act, and Poisons Act) plus the legislation relating to pharmacy as a profession (Pharmacy Act and Royal Charter). In addition there is a variety of legislation that impacts upon the practice of pharmacy -- such as health and safety, data protection and retail legislation. The core pharmacy legislation is summarised in the Medicines Ethics and Practice (MEP) Guide that is published once a year and supplied free of charge to all practising pharmacists and via schools of pharmacy, to all pharmacy graduates. This guide is intended as a working guide to the law but it is also the primary reference source for the professions Code of Ethics.
