| Abstract: | Early childhood professionals and program administrators can work through the handbook individually, using it as a self-improvement tool. Program administrators or supervisors can also use the assessment scale and the observation checklist (included in the appendicies) to monitor their staff improvement. The handbook is divided into five modules designed to address knowledge, attitudes and skills in five topical areas. Module 1 provides the essential foundations upon which other learning will occur and the information presented in Module 5 is intended to help integrate the concepts and strategies presented in Modules 1 through 4. Further, the handbook has a companion assessment scale that can be self-administered or can be administered by a trainer, supervisor, professor or observer to gauge current knowledge, attitudes and skills to identify strengths or areas for improvement. Each module is organized to present the general principles and strategies to address cultural and linguistic diversity, and then, provides additional information specific to working with Latino children and families. |
