Abstract: This book presents the results of years of investigation into glycoconjugates in the digestive systems, particularly pancreatic juice. The extensive and detailed information will connect basic science to practical clinical science and establish a foundation for future advancements in the uncharted field of research. The book is organized into three themed parts, describing the basic understanding of the etiology and pathophysiology of pancreatic diseases are described along with many discoveries, including new substances in the field of digestive organs and complex carbohydrates. It describes the the characteristics of dermatan sulfate proteoglycans, which led to the development of an artificial synthesis method for dermatan sulfate proteoglycans, with the characteristics of each part of the digestive tract, to advance the future research. 4-methylumbelliferone, an effective hyaluronic acid synthesis inhibitor with significant anti-tumor activity and a significant effect on metastasis inhibition, was potentially found to help treat pancreatic cancer.Ex vivo research of pancreatic juice is challenging physiologically and biochemically due to pancreatic juice enzyme activation. Therefore findings from this research will be of interest to many andwill broaden the scope of medical researchers specializing in digestive organs and diseases, complex carbohydrates, connective tissue, and connective tissue diseases, biotechnology, cancer, and anticancer drug development.
