Founded in 1889 as a retailer of health science books, Matthews understands the needs of health science bookstores. We have grown by finding ways to help our customers become more informed and more efficient, and by making their everyday work lives easier. Today, Matthews supplies health science bookstores, libraries and vocational schools throughout North America with the health science books, multimedia products, medical instruments, and information they need to succeed.

Because Matthews is an employee-owned company, everyone at Matthews has a stake in the business. With ownership comes rights, responsibilities, risks, and rewards. Matthews maintains an inventory of medicine, nursing, allied health, veterinary, dental, and bioscience titles from over 350 publishers such as Lippincott, F.A. Davis and McGraw-Hill. We have more than 100,000 titles in our database, and acquire books for customers from over 4,000 publishers. In fact, our St. Louis, Missouri distribution facility houses the largest selection of health science information under one roof. With two distribution facilities in New Jersey and St. Louis, we proudly boast a 99.5+% error-free accuracy rate on fulfillment from both facilities.

Marketing

Matthews will assist you in the marketing of your products. We have ten sales people across the country visiting bookstores and libraries everyday. They are presenting books like yours to some of the most prestigious universities in America, as well as community colleges, and various other health related facilities.

The Matthews Web Site at http://www.matthewsbooks.com allows customers to place orders at their convenience. Customers have immediate access to recall notices, forthcoming titles, and other crucial product information.

Come on board with Matthews and your company will be listed in our ‘New Publisher’ section on the front page of our web site for one month free of charge. In addition, your company will be introduced in the "Spotlights" section of The Latest News, our monthly email newsletter reaching over 400 bookstore managers and librarians across the country. We also offer a Website Partner Program. Our database is used as the search engine and for over 100 web sites including Bookstores, Nursing Programs, Allied Health Programs, online internet courses, publisher sites, etc. Various marketing opportunities are available for these sites.

Many of our bookstore and library customers participate in our Standing Order Program and Approval Program. These programs are designed to alert buyers of upcoming or just released titles that are appropriate for their market based on a customized profile created for each account. Titles are ‘filtered’ by subject matter to determine the best placement for the product. Becoming a Matthews stock vendor will ensure that your new titles will reach the correct audience with the highest potential for sell through.

Placement and Shipment of Orders

At Matthews, customers have the ability to place an order 24 hours a day, seven days a week via the Internet, EDI, PUBNET, email and fax. Or, customer service is available toll free between 7:30am and 6:00pm CST, Monday-Friday. In addition, customers receive PO confirmation and immediate notification of backorders via fax, email, PUBNET or EDI.

Orders received by 2:00pm CST are shipped the same day upon customer request.

Billing & Credits

Matthews takes care of the billings and collections for all of our customers for your product(s). We facilitate customer's overstock returns of your titles and unless the title has been declared out of print or has been replaced by a new edition, the stock is returned to our inventory for future orders.
